2008 - 2009 Journal Project - from a private diary to a unavoidable public action
The Journal Project was a diary, the story of one year told
every day.
Everyday a little square (10 x 10cm.) will speak about emotions, feelings
or the wish of the same day.
It was a work in progress: the idea was to have, at the end of the year, a
big afghan made with 365 little squares.
This is not only a daily work, a daily exercise. It is much
more. It's an opportunity to take oudoor a private work, usually done by housewives
and old maids. There are groups abroad involved in public acts of political
crafting (and political activism through knit), of benefits for charities,
of protest or as a provocatory disguise taken to the streets. Usually these
kind of works are cooperation works, and their purpose is the cooperation
itself, or solitary performances linked to some kind of cultural event. The
Journal Project means to emancipate from sedentariety this type of womanly
handcraft taking it outdoors, but also to expose it to casual sights in standard
situations and different places, and in total "solitude".
I'm trying to document the situations, the sights and the meetings: everything
will be published at the end of the project.
The work in progress instead is published daily in the blog
that i created for this project, where everyone can post comments or pictures.
